SORSHE ILISH (HILSA)





Ingredients
  • Ilish fish (hilsa) – 700 gms, cut into pieces
  • Turmeric powder – 2 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Mustard seeds, soaked in water – 3 tsp (you can use readymade mustard powder
  • Black cumin – 1/3 tsp
  • Green chillies – 5 to 6
  • Mustard oil – as required

Method

Take a bowl. Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt.
Take a blender and make a fine paste of mustard seeds. If you are using readymade mustard powder then add some luke warm water and a pinch of salt to it. Keep this paste for min 15mins.
Heat oil in a pan/kadai. Fry the both side of the fish pieces carefully. Take it out and keep aside. Add black cumin to the remaining oil. Add green chillies and the mustard paste to it. Fry for 2mins. Add some turmeric powder, salt and warm water. Cook it with covered lid for 5mins. Add the fish pieces and cook it in high flame till the gravy becomes thick. Add 1 tsp of mustard oil and serve hot with steamed rice.
