Doi Potol is another famous recipe among Bengalis. A sweet n sour gravy, rich in curd and some spices. Its just not great in looks but also a delicacy for vegetarians. One can make it easily at home. Doi Potol is a perfect recipe to add some more taste to your guest's taste-buds.
Ingredients
- Pointed gourd (potol) - 8 , half slit
- Dry red chilli - 1
- Curd - 1 cup, whisked
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
- Green chillies, chopped - 2
- Cumin & coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
- Raisins - 8 to 10
- Salt - to tattoo
- Sugar - to taste
- Oil - as required
Method
In a mixing bowl, take the whisked curd. Add turmeric powder, salt, sugar, red chilli powder, green chillies, cumin & coriander powder, garam masala powder and raisins. Mix well.
Half slit the pointed gourd / potol from the middle and marinate with some turmeric powder. Heat oil in a pan. Add the potol and fry till the color changes. Take it out and keep aside.
In the remaining oil, add dry red chilli. Add the premade paste to it. Cook it for 2 to 3 mins. Add a little water. Now add the fried potol. mix well. Add some more water (warm). Cover the lid. Cook it till the gravy becomes thick. Serve hot with steamed rice.
