AAR MACHER KALIA (FISH CURRY WITH POTATOES)



Ingredients
  • Fish pieces (Aar mach) - 800 gm
  • Potatoes, cut into long pcs - 1 large size
  • Cumin seeds - 1/3 tsp
  • Dry red chilli - 1
  • Onion, chopped - 1 large size
  • Tomatoes, chopped - 1 large size
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Green chillies - 4
  • Turmeric powder - 1 and 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - as required

Method

Marinate the fish pcs with some salt and turmeric powder. 

Put a pan on the flame. Heat oil for fry. Once the oil is hot enough, put the fishes into it. Turn it and fry both sides till golden brown. Put it out and keep aside. 

Add the potatoes and fry for 2 mins. Take these out and keep aside.

Take out the excess oil from the pan. In 2 tsp oil, add red chilli and cumin seeds. Now add the ginger-garlic paste and fry for a min. Add chopped onions, fry till light brown. Add chopped tomatoes and some salt. Cover the lid and cook it till the tomates are nice & soft. Add the turmeric powder, cumin & coriander powder, kashmiri red chilli powder, pepper powder and garam masala powder. Add some warm water. Cook it for a min. Add the fried potatoes. Give it a nice stir. Cook it till the masala leaves oil. Now add some more water (warm). Cover the lid and bring it to boil. When the gravy is half done, add the fried fishes to it. Cook it in high flame. When the gravy becomes thick, serve hot with steamed rice.
