Bengali biye bari lunch is incomplete without Macher Matha Diye Chachra. Nowadays, we are upgraded to different cuisines food, but this authentic dish has its own royalty. Personally, I love this. Even at home, if you have lots of vegetables in refrigerator, try this. As we all know vegetables are always good for health. Today's recipe is a lovely dish - Macher Matha Diye Chachra. Ingredients
- Fish head (Katla), medium size - 2
- Potato – 1
- Sweet potato - 1 medium size
- Pointed gourd (Parwal) - 6 to 8
- String beans, chopped - 1 cup
- Green papaya - 150 gms
- Cabbage, chopped – 1 cup
- Beans, chopped – 1 cup
- Pumpkin, cut into pieces – 1 cup
- Five spice (Panch foron) - 1/3 tsp
- Bay leaf - 2
- Dry red chilli - 2
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Tomato, chopped - 1
- Green chilli - 2
- Bhaja Masala (roasted cumin, coriander & five spice) - 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
- Salt - to taste
- Sugar - To taste
- Mustard oil - as required
Method
Marinate the fish heads with some turmeric powder and salt. Put a pan on the flame. Heat 3 tsp oil. Add the fish heads and fry both sides. Take it out and keep aside.
In the remaining oil, add the five spice, bay leaf and dry chilli. Once it starts to crackle, add the vegetables one by one. First, add the potatoes and parwal. Then add the other vegetables and green chillies one by one. Add some salt and turmeric powder. Cove and cook. Fry till the vegetables are nice and almost cooked. In between add the fried fish heads and some sugar. Now add the bhaja masala and garam masala powder. Just sprinkle some water, don't add too much. Cover and cook for another few mins. Serve hot along with steam rice. Enjoy!
